Future shows

The Detroit Kennel Club Shows are an excellent venue for specialties and supported entries. The Cobo Convention Center is spacious, climate controlled, and is an extremely clean and safe environment for dogs. Loading and unloading is simple, as you can drive into the building Friday evening to unload, and drive in again after Best in Show on Sunday to load and depart. Grooming is next to your benching area, so there is no need to have a separate grooming area away from your dogs.

The Detroit Kennel Club is also the top AKC educational dog show in the country. As a benched show, the club makes a special effort to educate the public about American Kennel Club registered purebred dog ownership, and the importance of purchasing a dog from a reputable breeder. With almost 50,000 spectators over a two day period, the club offers a variety of educational and special events. Four or five breed seminars are presented each day; a "Guide to Buying a Purebred Puppy" is offered both days. In addition to having your specialty show in conjunction with the Detroit Kennel Club, we can offer seminars for judges and breeders, as well as separate seminars for the public to introduce them to and educate them on your breed. Beginning in 2005, the Detroit Kennel Club hopes to offer selected regional breed clubs additional space in which to set up breed education materials.

The Detroit Kennel Club is pleased to offer the following benefits for your specialty show:

$5 back per entry in those breeds which draw majors in either sex.

Complimentary function/show space.

Complimentary luncheon for both Sweeps and Breed judges, and up to four ring stewards per day.

Complimentary electric for grooming purposes.

Complimentary tables for trophy set up.

If you feel your breed club would be interested in holding a specialty or supporting an entry at the Detroit Kennel Club shows, the DKC would be delighted to have you. For questions concerning the 2009 shows, or future Detroit Kennel Club shows, please contact Peggy Beisel-McIlwaine.
