The DKC has a special competition each year for selecting the best dog entered in the Bred-By Exhibitor class at the Sunday show. The Bred-By class is only open to dogs born in the United States. In order to enter this class, the handler of the dog has to have bred as well as own it. After the breed judging, the judge brings the two bred-by winners (one male, called a dog, and one female, called a bitch) back into the ring and selects the dog deemed best to represent the breed in the bred-by group competition.
